Today’s Addition 2007: A Restful Retreat

In these two half-hour episodes, Danny takes viewers through every decision homeowners face when adding on to their home from where to put the addition to how to create a space that has the latest amenities but still blends in with their existing home. This master bedroom addition will not only incorporate the latest design and construction principles, it features all the comforts you’d expect—breakfast bar, private garden, reading nook, personalized electronics, and more—while still keeping to the scale and feel of the ranch home it serves.
View The Floorplan. The interior decorator for the project is Diane Berry of Unique Designs, Inc. in Mobile, Alabama. View the cabinet plan. View the layout of plastic tubing for Uponor radiant floor heating system.
Today’s Addition: A Restful Retreat, is designed not merely for sleeping, but for living well.

Materials used in the project
Jeld-Wen Windows
The Tradition Plus Clad-Wood Casement Windows offer a pure look with simple operation. They are hinged on one side to open outward, for full ventilation, an unobstructed view and ease of cleaning. The windows and french view patio door are built with AuraLast wood, which provides superior protection against wood decay, water absorption and termite infestation. The windows are Energy Star qualified and come standard with insect screens.
Merillat Cabinets
The Merillat Classic® Cherry LaBelle cabinets with their traditional door style provide timeless character and elegance. The furniture-style design of the full overlay doors is made complete with mitered corners. View the cabinet plan.
Nutone Video Door Answering System & Recessed Lighting
The video door answering system (Model VSM4SK Surface Mounted video door system with camera) will provide hands-free security in a compact convenient design and will allow homeowners to see and speak to visitors without having to open the door. Watch Danny install a similar video answering system. The Recessed Fan Light (Model 744) will disappear into the ceiling with the other recessed lights and keep the air fresh and comfortable.
Uponor Radiant Heating
Quik Trak® System is a fast and easy way to install radiant heating in new construction and retrofit remodeling situations. The radiant floor heating system is designed to circulate warm water through PEX tubing embedded in the floor of your home. The heat radiates up through the floor, warming the people, furnishings and air in the room.
