Installing Vinyl Cedar Shakes on a Gable

To finish off the front gable of this brick ranch style house, a vinyl product from Crane Performance Siding was used that is made to resemble individually applied cedar shakes. The panels are exceptionally rigid and lock together tightly to provide a realistic appearance.

Crane also makes foam backed lap siding known as Craneboard® that also has an authentic looking profile as well as providing additional insulation value to the home.

    We use quite a few vinyl shake manufacturers now and customers rave about the appearance. It’s a great upgrade that doesn’t look like vinyl siding at all.

    While the use of the term “vinyl shake” is common actual vinyl shake is not. There are just two manufacturers of vinyl shake. Certainteed and The Foundry. All other use polypropelene not vinyl. There are very important difference between the materials and manufacturing methods.

    I am having vinyl shake (Certainteed) put up on the gables of my home. Because the nailing edges are being trimmed in order to accomodate the angle of the gable, several of the panels keep falling. The builder have slapped on adhesive, but they are still falling off. What is your recommendation?
